It was one of the honors of my life to be asked to design and produce this tribute to a man, nicknamed “SPESH,” whose art, music, and spirit filled the streets of San Francisco and enriched the lives of everyone he met along the way. Evan’s mother Libby sent me a trove of photographs and art that he had produced, along with stories about him, written by the people who knew him. As an artist and musician myself, I felt a tremendous responsibility to endeavor to represent Evan’s life and creativity in the most respectful and authentic way possible. Working closely with personal historian Carla Koop, we created a tribute that wove all of these threads together, giving his friends and family a fragment of the cloth of Evan’s life that they could hold — something to help them laugh, cry, and remember.
