When a new publisher wanted to re-design a semi-academic journal on middle-eastern arts and culture into a slick consumer magazine, Springer Design was called in for the job. As bellydance was making in-roads into American culture, the publisher saw the magazine filling a similar niche as publications like Yoga Journal did for yoga. The result was an energetic design, utilizing plenty of photographs, colorful illustrations and easy-to-read typography, complemented by ample white space.
